High Cotton is the kind of small Southern town where serious crime is rare and everybody knows everybody else’s business.
Until the killing begins.
A series of brutal, seemingly random murders leaves the community frightened and Police Chief William Garrison searching for a connection that shouldn’t exist. At scene after scene, one disturbing detail keeps surfacing:
A large black dog.
Garrison came to High Cotton hoping twenty years in law enforcement had earned him something close to a quiet life. Instead, he finds himself investigating crimes unlike anything he has encountered before—crimes that increasingly resist any rational explanation.
Then a mysterious stranger arrives in town.
He is searching for the animal. He seems to know what it is capable of. And what he tells Garrison challenges everything the seasoned police chief believes about good, evil, and the things that may exist beyond the boundaries of reason.
Garrison doesn’t believe in the occult.
But as the bodies accumulate and the truth surrounding the stray begins to emerge, disbelief may become a luxury he can no longer afford.
Because something has come to High Cotton.
